Entrepreneur, executive, and engineer in the electronics industry with an inquiring
mind, marketing vision, and sense of humor. Founded and managed two successful
electronics companies, received 23 US patents, established an industrial computer standard
in the USA and the Peoples Republic of China, and developed and taught a sales seminar for
executives "How to Sell through Reps, Distributors, and VARs." Wrote and
published "The Handbook of Channel
Marketing," a comprehensive book for CEOs and sales professionals on how to
plan, select, hire, manage, and market through sales channels and channel organizations.
Currently writing "Plantations in the
Jungle: lessons from nature on how to rescue modern civilization."
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
As Founder and CEO of Pro-Log Corporation:
Led Pro-Log for 16
years including 10 consecutive years of growth and profits. Growth funded entirely from
profits, from startup and $150,000 equity to $20 million annual sales and $4.3 million
equity.
Successfully
repositioned business from PROM Programmers, instruments with limited growth potential, to
industrial computers.
Launched and
nourished corporate automation program that produced >40% increase in shipments per
employee in a 4 year period, increased inventory turns from 1.7 to over 6, reduced WIP to
2 days and generated
a distinct competitive advantage in product quality and cost in a global
market.
Set corporate quality
standards which produced 5 year product warranty, 10 year minimum operating life in
hostile environments, and MTBF rates that still lead the industry.
Conceived and managed
business strategy that made the STD Bus, a product invented by Pro-Log, an international
industrial computer standard.
Sold products,
developed promotional material, set up domestic and international sales and marketing
organizations, and taught over 100 hardware/software workshops on how to use
microprocessors in automation and control.
Developed marketing
and sales organization in Pacific Rim and established Pro-Log's STD bus as first
officially recognized industrial computer standard in China.
Introduced Government
of Peoples Republic of China to American Electronics Association (AEA), led to AEA office
in Beijing and business tour of USA by China's Minister of Electronics.
Chaired a user task
force in AEA on semiconductor dumping issue with Japan, and testified for AEA at
Department of Commerce hearing on dumping sanctions.
As Founder and VP Engineering of MSI Data Corporation:
Designed, developed,
and produced innovative electronic order-entry system for supermarkets.
Sold and installed
first systems ordered for supermarkets in Michigan.
Established on-site,
nationwide, field service organization. Wrote and negotiated profitable field service
agreements with supermarket chains.
Raised first round of
venture capital from an SBIC. That $400,000 debenture with warrants returned over $6
million in profits at the IPO four years later.
As Consultant and Founder of Ed Lee Executive Workshop:
Developed and teach

four week course on Project Management to executives in Shanghai.

As Director of Marketing New Business for Plantronics

and recommendations for wireless headset. Options included FCC Part 16 low frequency RF

Discovered
opportunity and conducted study of value of three dimensional sound (Q Sound) in business
use of headsets.
Evaluated supplier
and partnership opportunities for Plantronics in Hong-Kong and Japan.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Formed and led consulting team that successfully designed and built the first
microprocessor based heart-monitoring system (used Intel's 4004 CPU).
Evaluated investment opportunities for an SBIC.
Founded and led a toy manufacturer, established its retail sales channel which
included Toys-R-Us, bicycle shops, and supermarkets. Developed TV advertising and test
marketing.
Earned 23 US patents in
associative memory systems, computer circuits, electronics systems, non-linear magnetics,
and superconductor circuits.
Published over 30 papers and magazine editorials on business, legal, and
technical subjects in publications that include Electronics Business, EETimes,
High-Technology, Software News, Mini-Micro Systems, and EDN, Performance
Computing and Enterprise Computing.
Spoke on business, legal, and technical subjects at conferences including PCI
Bus Spring 96, National Joint Computer, Conference, Advanced Control Conference, The First
Southeastern Computer Law Institute, International Congress of Microelectronics, and
Compcon89, FCTC98 and FCTC99.
